The Sofa Hunt

Just sharing some info from my own sofa hunt:

For HT fans, you should get a comfy sofa, which is far more important than just the looks. After all you will be seated there for hours on end.

Avoid chairs / sofas which have too high backs and cover the sides too much as they will block the sounds from the rear speakers.

Remember the chair should allow you to sit with your eyes at the same level as the centre of your screen.

For under 2k, you can get a decent 3 seat sofa.

Even with leather. Just look for local brands like Star Living, Cellini, Om etc, especially during sales.
Do note that some are partial real leather. Eg Cellini uses real leather for those area which are in contact with your skin, eg the seats, the armrests, and use PU or 'leatherette' on the backing and sides.

Ikea has some decent designs, but I am still looking because some are really too deep. They may look nice, but the seat depth is too deep and forces you to use a pillow behind your back. It's nice to look at, but in the long run, it's bad for your back.

Even those 'lazyboy' type sink in sofas, they may look cushy, but for those of us who are getting on in age, they aren't so great orthopeadically speaking.

So choose function over form, unless you don't intend to spend a lot of time on the seat.

For those with larger wallets, look at the Stressless Aurora, not cheap, but they are comfortable and nice to look at!

I have two Stressless armchairs, and they are really comfy. But they do cost as much as a three seat sofa from local brands, but for your back, they are nice.

For the best value, typically three seat sofas offer the best value per seat, and armchairs cost the most.

Remember that it's ok not to have the same look armchair, and you can mix and match especially if there are different sized users. Eg your partner or kids may have different torso lengths and leg lengths, so it's ok to mix and match so everyone is comfortable.

So.... what did I get in the end? Well, it was a minor miracle, that we found a sofa which fitted all three of us! And the price tag was just about in our range. I haven't done a lot of research into Calia Italia, but they make nice sofas and this one was one of the lowest prices, and just released in 2018.

Their Cezanne sofa comes in a nice Cognac color, and has a two, two and a half as well three seater versions. Real leather and really made in Italy.
