Choosing A Charger For Your EV
There are plenty of articles on this, but I will use this to focus on my own experience.
When you choose a charger, there are plenty of choices on the market, so do read up on the difference between Type I and II, or the difference between AC and DC.
This is a good place to start some reading:

When you choose a charger, apart from checking the price, do some homework on the user reviews. See what others have experienced. Also if a charger has been used by commercial companies, that’s a good thing as these can be durable.
Points that may be important to you:
- warranty. To me this is very important, as some are only one year and others are up to three years. Repairs are costly so do check
- price. Does it include installation, and is it a 7kw 11kw or 22kw. A good 22kw is thrice as fast as the 7kw one and may only cost a little more.
- distributor. A warranty is only good if the seller is around to service or support it
- installer. Now this is actually one of the most important, because even if it is a good product, the installation process can make it a bad one. Do check out my previous post on the installation (Installing a new EV charger in your home).
- LAN, wifi and bluetooth. Make sure your home can reach this charger point if connectivity is important
- user interface and app. Many more basic ones are plug and play, but others allow you to start and stop at designated timings, or up to a maximum limit of charge and also give you information on cost of electricity and more
- how long is the cable? I would suggest getting the longer 7m one or more so you have choice as to where to place the charger
- is it at least IP55? The charger should be able to withstand rain and also be safe to use in wet conditions
- is there a receptacle for the charger head. Some models have this and also allow you to coil the cable around it
- where is the emergency stop button? Is it accessible
- color is less important, but white items tend to discolour faster
- how big is the box and will you have space for it in your garage?
- is the charging handle holder on the side or front of the unit? how far does it or the charger stick out? It may matter if space is tight in your garage
