Choosing a Projector Screen
I think there are enough people who are beginning to own screens, so it's useful to have a chat on the options.
Projectors (PJ) have been divided into a few camps
- traditional ones which require a longer throw, so you usually site it at the back
- ultra short throw ones which sit on a console at the front
The light source can be a bulb, LED or lasers
The video chip can be LCD, DLP, each with it's own pros and cons.
As for the screens, you won't want to be using the old style traditional ones with a UST PJ.
Those cheap and cheerful ones have a gain factor to help you retrieve or enhance the light reflection for the longer throw projectors, but if you are using the newer UST types, you actually don't want that.
You will need a ALR Light rejection type such as this:

Not cheap and you should know it before committing to a UST PJ.
Screens can be mobile, retractable, or fixed. Avoid those foldable unless you like a crease in the middle of your viewing area.
The fixed ones give the best balance between price and performance. But you pretty much need to hang it in place on the wall. The motorised retractable ones give you the option of having a TV in front of it.
When buying, do check if installation is included, as well as the type of material used. Not all ALR screens are the same.
The margin also matters and how easy is it to put the screen together. And don't scrimp on the screen, because the screen and your PJ are almost equal partners to give you the best image quality.

ReplyDeleteThinking to take up your suggestion, purchase ALR screen from link provided, or XY Screen? QC may cause ALR not having even surface?
Separate question will be, mobile cart frame or modified bicycle workstation will be best suited for my use to mount ALR frame?
Appreciate any professional advice.
