Moving a Large TV and Mounting It

So you have gone out and bought the largest set you can afford? Good choice. Because it will begin shrinking once you get home. No one I know has ever said their TV was too big. More often than not, they regret not getting a bigger set.

And with 4k Ultra HD, the suggested viewing distances have been reduced even more, so you have to sit closer to your TV.

As TVs get cheaper, you may be tempted to get a really big TV. Previously when the largest sets were 65" in size, you had no such issues, but now when the largest sets can measure up to 100", you best check if the TV can be moved into your home.

If you live in an apartment, there are some important logistics issues you should look out for:
- is there a lift in your apartment and does it stop at your floor?
- will it fit in the lift?
- are there additional charges for taking the TV up the stairs if you cannot use the lift?
- will the TV fit when you take the stairs?

Ask the store sales rep to give you the dimensions of the box, as well as the exact dimensions of the TV without the box. Then you may want to take a tape measure and see if it will fit inside your lift. Otherwise you should also check if it will navigate the stairwell, and you should take into account the size of the movers too.

Finally remember to mount the TV such that the centre of the TV is at or below your eye level when you are SEATED. Too many people take the centre of the TV to be in an enclave in the wall or do it when they are standing.

You should also take note of the height of your centre speaker, your TV console and leave some room.

Make sure your mount and the wall that it is screwed to can take the weight of the new giant screen.
