The Lost City Movie Review

The success of Raiders of the Lost Ark has spawn countless imitations, and of the better ones, there was Romancing The Stone, National Treasure and even Tomb Raider. The key ingredients were a good chemistry between the leads, mixed in a lot of good fun and action, humor and a smattering of romance without being too saccharine sweet, then mix it all together for big bucks at the box office. However that's easier said than done and not every treasure hunt action movie rakes in the dollars and positive comments.

So The Lost City walks in the footsteps of hallowed predecessors, treading a nice line between action, comedy and romance. Let's not forget the importance of a good villain, someone you detest enough yet remains charismatic.

Whilst not breaking any new ground, the combination of Channing and Sandra do generate enough laughs and despite Sandra being in her fifties, she does still look very good and does the romantic bits without missing a beat. Her forte is physical comedy and she excels here. Unlike Sandra, Channing is not going to win any Oscars, but he is a decent counterfoil and whilst not anywhere close to Mr Harrison Ford, he does the dumb blonde parody well enough. The addition of Brad Pitt was a nice touch and while it make sense to (spoiler alert)... kill him off, one wonders how it would have turned out if he played the lead hero instead. Even Chris Pratt would have made a good alternative. Mr Harry Potter aka Daniel Radcliffe made for a different spin on the villain, but perhaps Mark Strong would have been a stronger choice, pun intended..

The Dominican Republic is beautiful and provides a great backdrop, perhaps a good location for the next Jurassic Park?

As for the sound, here is a modern Atmos track that does not disappoint. You get plenty of surround action, overhead flyovers and a decent bass track too. Nothing to be embarrassed here at all.

I take Coke Lite these days, and it whilst it's not real Coke, the taste is good enough and here, the movie satisfies, even if it's not Raiders.

I will recommend a rental at least and a buy for the surround fest.
