BZ4x roadtrip up north and using the NS highway chargers
From the customs, we proceeded to checkout the Skudai RnR, where there are quite a few options for charging, located at the various petrol stations and stores. For example the Caltex station has a brace of JomCharge DC chargers.
The next stop we tried was the big one. This is a game changer, located at the Pitstop at Tangkak. There are eight bays with a total of 400kw available, although this is shared across all the chargers. Getting 90kw from the DC chargers is pretty easy.
And with eight bays, you don’t really need to wait for your turn, and there is shelter for the chargers, which came in handy as it began to pour once I stopped.
There’s a toilet nearby - no soap, and you have to pay M50Cents so head to the coffee shops instead.
This uses the ChargEV app, so you need to download it and more importantly enable payment for Malaysia as well as Singapore to get it to work. Then indicate where your car is, select that charging bay and connect the charging gun.
With about 90kw, it only takes about half and hour or so to top up my BZ4X and be on my way, so it’s just nice for a quick meal and pee break, and you have a few options closely.
I prefer Do do beef but the hor fun was not bad too.
We then drove to the Sunway Pyramid Hotel, where there are chargers in B1 at the preferred parking - you gotta pay extra for this area, or use the Sunway Pinnacles brace of JomCharge DC / AC chargers. The funny thing is the Sunway Pinnacles chargers show it’s out of order but clearly it was working but even the DC charger only had 29KW or so when it was shared.
There’s a new six bay charger area in the Sunway Resort hotel but at the time I went in June 2026, it was not ready yet.
On the way back I used the Tangkak Pitstop again, and I also checked out the Machap stop where there are chargers too.
